You are here: Compile Time Estimator
This site offers a new Feature called compile time estimator.
You can use it in one of two ways: first, you can use a patched genlop tool on the command line or second, you can fill out the following form. Just select your cpu and copy&paste your emerge -p output into the text field. You will get an estimate compile time. Please remember: this is an estimate, not an exact prediction. If your real time differs a lot, please send your cpu info described as following:
If your CPU is not listed, please send an output of "genlop -ntl" and the contents of your /proc/cpuinfo to feature at linuxhowtos org and your cpu will be included.
Update: as of Apr, 9th 2007 the patch is no longer needed on the ~ versions of genlop. It has been integrated. Thanks to the maintainers. If you don't want to upgrade (yet), please use the patch below.
genlop diff to apply the patch, run patch /usr/bin/genlop -i genlop.diff as root.
A site note, the drop down box above is sorted by compile time speed, meaning the Intel Core2 Duo E6550 is the fastest compiler and the slowest is the P2 300MHz (proudly owned by me and still in use!). Try to beat one of those ;)
Wanted CPU information If you have a CPU not listed above please send in a genlop report as mentioned above.
