You need USE=X for the scanner GUI.
Installing driver portions only, make sure you know what you are doing.
Depending on the USE flags set for hpcups or hpijs the appropiate driver
is installed. If both USE flags are set hpijs overrides hpcups.
This also disables fax, network, scanner and gui support!
Installing neither hpcups (USE=-hpcups) nor hpijs (USE=-hpijs) driver,
which is probably not what you want.
You will almost certainly not be able to print.
